Former French Consulate in Boston’s historic Back Bay.
The high end construction company, Connaughton Construction, provided luxury renovations to this stately four story, 15,000 SF former French Consulate in Boston’s historic Back Bay. The former French Consulate was converted into five, customized, luxury condominiums including a penthouse featuring a curved stairway with wrought iron railings and a figured mahogany library.
Connected Carriage House
A separate carriage house is connected to the main building with an enclosed walkway. The lower level was retrofitted into a six-bay parking garage; the upper level renovated into a guest suite for the first floor (unite 3); and the garden level divided into two au-pair, guest suites.
Main House
The main house’s original ornate moldings, mahogany panels and marble flooring on the first floor were retained and restored. The units bathrooms were fitted with limestone, marble and imported tile; remote control gas fireplaces were added to some rooms while wood-burning fireplaces in others were relined; and all were fitted with high speed internet cable, custom audio, stereo and telephone systems. Harwood floors were quarter-sawn oak, cherry and walnut. Many cabinets were customized using different woods.
HVAC and all Mechanical Systems
Special care and attention to detail was given while installing all the mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, sprinkler) systems to retain the building’s elegant finishes.
Exterior Brick Restored
The brownstone and brick facade was restored, windows replaced, and roof decks, terraces and balconies were added.
